A minimalist equipment in warm waters
There is no need for wetsuits to practice kitesurfing in Martinique, where the water temperature fluctuates between 77 and 82° F (25 and 28° C). On the other hand, kitesurfers less experienced than Mickael Neral (photo) better wear wet socks to protect themselves from the sea urchins and crabs present in the shallow waters of the lagoon at Pointe Faula. The configuration of the Martinican kitesurf spots encourages practitioners to use rather Twintip and Freeride boards, even if the craze for foil has reached the island. Its fans must then be very attentive to the tides and sometimes walk hundreds of feet past the herbaria.
