By giving birth to the artificial lake of Vouglans, the dam built on the Ain river has transformed its valley into a paradise for tourists, swimmers, fishermen, walkers. If the lake has three large equipped and supervised beaches - La Mercantine, Bellecin and Surchauffant - it is also the subject of numerous environmental protections. The part of the lake located between the affluence with the Cimante and the dam belongs to the Haut-Jura regional natural park. At the floral level, the banks of Lake Vouglans are occupied by moors, meadows and lawns as well as spruce forests and some peripheral crops.
