Located on the edge of the Northern Alps in Southern France, the Dévoluy massif benefits from physical conditions and resistance to human erosion favorable to the establishment of winter sports resorts. Its perched syncline arrangement provides slopes adapted to the practice of board sports. As for its high average altitude, it provides a favorable snow cover for three to four months of the year. Finally, the Dévoluy's relative proximity with the conurbation of Marseille allowed the development of a winter tourism project from the mid-1960s. The ski resort of Superdévoluy was born in 1966, La Joue du Loup (photo) ten years later.
