Draft horses are making a remarkable comeback in some French vineyards. They replace the tractors that are considered too invasive and harmful for the vines. They are mostly Ardennes and Percheron horses, as their pace is slow and steady. They are trained to feel the roots under their hooves and move away from them. The use of horses allegedly helps to aerate and enrich the soil. The Maison Marguet estate started using Ardennes draft horses in 2010 and owns four of them.
