In France, the law of 10 July 1976 established the basis for species protection. Over the years, new decrees have extended the list of protected species on the national territory. Today, the majority of bird, amphibian and reptile species as well as all bat species are protected. The law prohibits the destruction or removal of eggs and nests, mutilation, and naturalization of protected animals. Whether they are alive or dead, their transport, use, sale or purchase remain prohibited.
