A breeding mostly made up of amateurs

In popular beliefs, the idea of horse breeding refers to large institutionalized stud farms. However, one should know that French horse breeding mainly consists of amateurs who own, for 80% of them, only one or two mares. The public operator in the service of the equine sector, the IFCE (French Institute for Horses and Riding), in fact, considers as a breeder any owner of at least one mare that has been led to reproduction during the year considered.
