‘Dent de la Rancune’ is a lava column (dyke) standing in the Chaudefour Valley National Nature Reserve at an altitude of 4,898 feet (1,493 metres). Born 330,000 years ago, it corresponds to a few metres thick old magma supply conduit exposed by erosion. This sheet of magmatic rocks entirely overhanging on its North face is today a very popular climbing site.
