The Château de Versailles is the place where Kings Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI exercised their power. Before Louis XIV built the château and the park, there was only a hunting lodge on the site, which was used by his father Louis XIII. After the Revolution, the Château de Versailles was restored to its former glory during the Restoration and then under the reign of Louis-Philippe I. Transformed into a museum in the 19th century, the monument forever bears the imprint of the Sun King. The Château de Versailles’ estate covers more than 800 hectares. It consists of the château, the gardens, the park, and the Trianon estate.
