The Estérel massif extends over 198 sq mi (320 km²), 80 sq mi (130 km²) of which are listed and protected. The mountain range is covered by 37 sq mi (60 km²) of public woodlands maintained by the National Forests Office. The wooded stratum of this plant cover mainly consists of pines (maritime and umbrella pines) and oaks (cork, pubescent, holm, and sessile oaks), the different species of which can hybridize with each other. It is supplemented with eucalyptus, imported from Australia, which has become subspontaneous or even invasive.
