A long-standing worship

The first place of worship dedicated to Saint Stephen in Metz was an oratory from the 5th century. It was the only monument spared by Attila during the sack of the city in 451. It then became popular among the population, and there was talk of a miracle. The Metz Cathedral was raised on its ruins in 1220. During its construction, it would also include the church Notre-Dame-La-Ronde, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The cathedral underwent numerous changes throughout its history, but always in Flamboyant Gothic style.
