The main building bordering the inner courtyard of the Hospices de Beaune on the north, east, and west sides includes two floors with sheltered exterior galleries. They allowed the Sisters of Saint Martha to move about sheltered to take care of the sick. The gallery on the ground floor is decorated with small stone columns that become wood upon reaching the first floor. They blend elegantly with the half-timbering of the facades and the ornate woodwork of the skylights.
