The Notre-Dame de Dôle minor basilica stands at the heart of the historic town. It was rebuilt in 1509 on the site of the collegiate church of Notre-Dame desired by Countess Mahaut of Burgundy and razed by King Louis XI during the invasion of Franche-Comté. Notre-Dame de Dôle displays a sober late Gothic style typical of Franche-Comté, and its bell tower's height is unrivaled in the region (239 ft / 73 m). Dubbed a minor basilica in 1951, the monument has a colored porch made of Sampans stones (local colored marble).
