The bell tower of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Church, which dominates the roofs of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, was once legendary throughout ancient Provence. It was nicknamed the dancing bell tower as it was known to vibrate to the sound of its bells. The faithful and curious came from all over the region to put their ears on the bell tower's stones, hear its moaning, and watch its 72 feet (22 m) high structure seemingly shaking with shivers.
