Accustomed to their aquatic environment between the Mediterranean Sea, the Rhone delta, ponds, swamps, and roubines, Camargue horses love water and swim with ease. They are, for example, able to swim across the arms of the Rhône. Rescue stories even relate their participation alongside the gardians in the evacuation of shipwrecked people from boats stranded on the Camargue coast during several storms.
