A castle redecorated in Flamboyant Gothic

Around 1457, the facades of the Grand Logis (main house), against the curtain wall, and of the second house of the castle of Châteauneuf-en-Auxois were redecorated by Philippe Pot, adviser and godchild of the Duke of Burgundy. The attic lit by skylights was adorned with gables with flowered rampants in the purest Flamboyant Gothic style fashionable at the Duke's court. In the 18th century, the mullions of the large windows on the first floor were removed to provide better clarity, and a door with a semi-circular pediment replaced the original one. Further on, an octagonal turret houses a spiral staircase and opens with a door surmounted by an arch and fleur-de-lis pinnacles.
