A Louis XV-style castle
0
0
The Upper Castle of Villarceaux was built in the purest Louis XV style between 1755 and 1759. At the time, it was used as a hunting lodge, mainly in summer. From Paris, a day’s carriage ride was necessary to reach the castle. The entrance was via the courtyard of honour, located to the north, at the rear of the castle. Built in the middle of a 70-hectare park, the Domaine de Villarceaux has been classified as a historic monument since 1941. Its French gardens, its soft grass ‘vertugadin’, its lace of Renaissance boxwoods and its ponds were awarded the Remarkable Garden label by the Ministry of Culture in 2004.
