The bell almost seems a feminine living entity when one examines the terms used to designate its various parts. It has a brain, which forms the upper part on top of which the handles are fixed. A ring crosses it inside (the suspension ring) on which the clapper swings. The decorations in bands are fixed at the limit of the brain, and the lower part of the bell, where the clapper strikes, is called a skirt.
