The historic center of Cahors, the former capital of the Quercy region, is home to numerous medieval dwellings from the 12th, 13th, and 14th centuries. Two houses prior to 1400 still display their wood, bricks, and lime corbelling overlooking a ground floor with rubble pillars and a wide gate. Other residences are more similar to houses of eastern France, with a wooden frame filled with cob. Cahors's medieval houses mostly display Romanesque architecture, and some, more opulent, show tracery windows and the adoption of casements.
