Figeac is the second most populated town in the Lot department. Its historic center is home to wealthy medieval merchant houses, the oldest dating from the 12th century. They consist of an arcade and a shop on the ground floor, an aula or living room on the first floor, and an attic with a covered gallery or soleilho. The houses are decorated according to Romanesque art, like the Maison du Griffon. The Hôtel de la Monnaie, the Palais Balène, and Saint-Sauveur Church are other landmarks of Figeac.
