Shell fractures are a frequent and urgent reason for consultation at the SOPTOM care center of the Village des Tortues in Carnoules, the only center in France authorized to operate on chelonians in their natural environment. A rapid treatment by the veterinary team to limit the state of shock and dehydration of the animal is imperative before the actual repair of the shell. The severity of the fractures depends on the extent and age of the lesions, but the consequences of a poorly treated fracture can be manifold and must be avoided.
