In Vernon, the Jardin des Arts, designed by Elisabeth Moisan in 2006, occupies the former Château Royal of Philippe Auguste, of which only the old donjon known as Tour des Archives remains. Alongside the 72 ft (22 m) high tower with 10 ft (3m) thick walls at the base, the Philippe Auguste cultural center was built in 1992 on the former stables of King Louis XV from 1752. After their transformation into garrisons in 1939, only one building connected to the center by a footbridge remained. The cultural space includes a theatre, exhibition halls, a media library, and an artistic conservatory.
