A cape equipped with two batteries

Located at the eastern end of the island of Porquerolles, in the Var department, Cap des Mèdes looks like a bare peak. Spotted with 75 ft (23 m) high, jagged and blackish rocky heads, it is also occupied by two military batteries. The low battery, or Mèdes battery, was built at the end of the 18th century, renovated in the middle of the 19th century, and decommissioned at the end of the same century. As for the high battery, built between 1928 and 1944, it is a defensive equipment representative of the protection system of Toulon's harbor.
