The name of the Cap des Mèdes, located at the north-eastern end of the island of Porquerolles, evokes an old navigation term. Muder, like mudare in Italian or modar in Spanish, meant to change the yard of a mast, that is to say veering with a Latin sail. This delicate maneuver involved bringing the antenna vertically to pass the lower part to the other side of the mast and then reestablish the sail on the other side. It was essential for sailboats seeking to sail past the northeast cape of the island of Porquerolles.
