The greater flamingo (Phœnicopterus roseus) has an impressive beak that serves as both a shovel and a filter. Entirely black in juveniles, it is predominantly pink in adults with only its tip remaining pure black. Its thinner upper mandible is mobile and connected to the skull by a tendon hinge, while its imposing lower mandible is joined together with the cranial box.
