Potager des Princes de Chantilly ( Oise ) . Le lion ailé du tétramorphe est la représentation de la figure de l'évangéliste Marc . Les anciens Perses, Venise, la Belgique, plusieurs ordres de chevalerie, l'ont pris pour emblème. Chez les Grecs, il était spécialement consacré à Cybèle. Le lion ailé de Saint-Marc, sur la Tour de l'Horloge, à Venise. En Égypte il fut le symbole de la vigilance, et quelquefois du Nil.
