A craftsman-turner in the tradition of his ancestors

In the past, the ‘Petite Montagne’ - which extends over the cantons of Arinthod, Orgelet and Saint-Julien-sur-Suran in the south-west of the Jura massif - was essentially agricultural but, in winter, each peasant became a craftsman and practiced woodturning. Nowadays, wood craftsmanship tends to disappear in favor mainly of the locally well-developed plastics industry. Rare are the craftsmen-turners who - like Robert Marichy in Arinthod - continue to bring to life and transmit the know-how and working methods of their ancestors.
