The islands of Hyères Archipelago, including Porquerolles, are part of the European Natura 2000 network. They entered the list under the entry Îles d'Hyères following two decrees on September 30, 1986, and September 03, 2018. The classification applies to 118,376 acres (47,905 ha) of land and sea surface ranging from -2,952 to 623 ft (-900 to 190 m) of altitude. The area is divided between 94% of marine surface, 3% of non-resinous evergreen forests, 2% of scrub and scrubland, and 1% of rocks and cliffs.
