An emblem animal of Camargue
1
0
Bulls are among the symbols par excellence of Camargue. They live in manades, large herds led by herdsmen who bring together bulls, horses, and cows. These herds are essential to the preservation of the wild territories of the region, whose herdsmen prepare the most vigorous animals for the Camargue races. When these bulls reach the end of their career, around the age of 15, they spend a peaceful retirement within the herds until their death. They are then buried upright on their legs as when they were alive, and their heads turned towards the sea. Tombstones or statues are generally carved in their image.
