A former fishing village

The former small fishing village of Beuzeval - at the root of the seaside resort of Houlgate in the Calvados department - was located on the left bank of the Drochon, a tiny stream that cuts the line of hills behind the coastline in its western part. It is there that the Protestant temple with its thin copper bell tower visible in this photo was erected, as well as the first holiday houses of Houlgate. Some 3.3 miles (5.4 km) long, the Drochon flows from south-east to north-west and has its source in the commune of Gonneville-sur-Mer at an altitude of 354 ft (108 m) before crossing Houlgate and flowing into the Channel.
