A former fishing village

The beach of Pourville-sur-Mer spreads out its 2,296 ft (700 m) in length at the edge of a valley. The town of Hautot-sur-Mer extends at the mouth of the Scie river between two cliffs. Formerly called Pohiervilla, it remained a small fishing village until the early 19th century. It became a seaside resort in 1858 under the impetus of Mr. Lemaître, a Dieppe surveyor, and attracted the Parisian intelligentsia with a casino and two large hotels.
