Saint-Michel Chapel is closely linked to the history of Saint-Michel de la Cluse priory, a property of the Boscodon abbey that dominates the valley of the Durance on its right bank, between Chorges and Prunières. Built on a small hill in the valley near the former road of the Durance and the railway line, the chapel was a place of pilgrimage until 1960, when the Serre-Ponçon dam was filled.
