Once a major port in the Mediterranean

Located in the keep of the citadel, the Maritime History Museum of Saint-Tropez reminds its visitors that the city was once the third French port in the Mediterranean. At one stage, local sailors spent half of their lives in the Ottoman Empire or crossed Cape Horn to go whale fishing. The museum also recounts the epic of Captain Annibal Bérard in Zanzibar or that of Captain Morello on the Indian coast. Rich in collections bought by the city or donated by individuals and institutions, it commemorates the maritime history that helped shape today's Saint-Tropez.
