Opened about twelve years ago, the Katara Cultural Village is considered the cultural centre of Doha. It includes museums, art galleries, workshops, an open-air amphitheatre, an auditorium, a theatre, an opera house... designed to serve as a bridge between Qatar and the rest of the world. Located on the West Bay waterfront, the village covers an area of 0.38 mi² (0.99 km²) and comprises 35 buildings built in the traditional architectural style of the region. Cultural events are held here throughout the year, with regional and international artists performing in concerts and theatre plays. The amphitheatre is built in the classical Greek style with Islamic influences, including the vaulted entrances visible in this photograph. It occupies more than 10,744 ft² (3,275 m²) and can accommodate up to 5,000 spectators.
