Uganda protects its fauna

According to the United Nations, Uganda (East Africa) is one of the countries with the greatest biodiversity in the world. Since the 1980s, the country's authorities have strengthened protection measures for wildlife. And these measures are bearing fruit. Over the last four decades, the number of elephants in East Africa has quadrupled and the number of giraffes has increased sixfold. The reintroduction of the rhinoceros, a species that disappeared from the territory in the 1980s, was a success. Unfortunately, lions and chimpanzees are still threatened by poaching and their numbers are decreasing. The Ugandan authorities want to strengthen their protection measures for these species.
