Endemic to Corsica, the Corsican salamander occupies a good part of the island from Cap Corse in the north to the mountain of Cagna in the south. Most observations are at medium altitude, between 500 and 1300 m altitude, the record being 1740m. The Corsican Salamander is a species protected by law. It is listed in Annex III of the Berne Convention, in Annex IV of the Habitat Directive and classified in the "species to watch" from the Red List of Amphibians and Reptiles of France.
