Typical of the Champagne territory

This church from the 16th century, dedicated to the Holy Cross, is typical from the Champagne territory. Stone being scarce in the Aube and Bailly area, men built churches as their houses, out of mud, earth and of course wood. Cut wooden tiles cover the walls of the main entrance. There are a variety of roofing materials: the slate bell tower, the flat tile on the nave, the coating of chestnut and batten essences.
