Two forests in one

Covering more than 5,680 acres (2,300 ha), the Ribeauvillé forest extends on two stages. It is first a typical forest of the Vosges' Piedmont. The woods are home to steep ravines where gneiss rocks scatter, covered with more than 200 species of moss. Sometimes the screes turn into larger rocks of strange shapes. Many Celtic legends are attached to them. Higher up, where fir trees, spruces, and Douglas trees grow, Ribeauvillé's woods become a veritable mountain forest.
