Tusk growth

Present in both sexes, the tusks make it possible to determine the walrus's age. Located at the corner of the mouth, they are the lengthening of the upper canines and pierce the juveniles' gums around the age of six months. Their growth is continuous but they remain hidden by the labial fold until the age of two.
