Turning in mushing

In mushing, as in skiing, the musher must shift his weight in the direction of the turn by leaning in the direction where he wants to turn and concentrating his weight on the inner skate of the sled while keeping some weight on the outer skate to prevent the sled from overturning. If he needs to reduce his speed to secure his turn, he must brake before entering the turn so that he can then keep his feet on the skates and his hands on the sled bar. These precautions are especially important in tight turns or when there is a build-up of crusted snow on the edges of a track.
