The coast of Tubuai, the oval island, has a regular and very little indented profile. A cemented and relatively flat road of 15.5mi (25km) runs along it. It is punctuated by modern churches and basket ball grounds built by the Mormons who have made the island one of their strongholds. The locals circulate in peace, by bike or on horseback, enjoying the view on the flowered houses and the sandy ribbon beaches bordering the road.
