The city of Troyes holds one of the most significant collections of half-timbered houses from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Its inhabitants have long lived in fear of fires. The history of their city was indeed marked by devastating fires that destroyed many of its typical homes. From the 1950s, the inhabitants of Troyes endeavored to restore these half-timbered houses that are now inherent to the contemporary aspect of the city.
