Third Glorieuse at Meursault

In Burgundy, the Three Glorieuses festivities end with the Paulée of Meursault. Celebrated every third weekend in November, this tradition was created in 1932 by Jules Lafon, then mayor of Meursault, to restore the end-of-harvest meal (or “paulée”). Nowadays the Paulée goes on. A banquet brings together winegrowers, merchants, customers and wine lovers in the winery of the Château de Meursault. Nearly 700 guests gather around 1 p.m. for a lunch that stretches all afternoon. The meal is charged and everybody must bring his wine, ideally a grand cru.
