At the age of 16, René Lalique began an apprenticeship with a jeweller where he learned the techniques of jewellery making. At the same time, he studied at the Ecole des Arts décoratifs in Paris. Initially a jeweller, he then began making glass objects. In 1921, he founded a tableware factory in Alsace. After his death in 1945, his son Marc succeeded him and brought Lalique into the crystal age. In 1977, his granddaughter Marie-Claude returned to the creation of jewellery and developed the creation of perfume bottles. In 1992, she created the house’s first eponymous perfume, Lalique de Lalique was born.
