Weaving with pandanu leaves
1
0
Pandanus is one of the main plant used by Polynesian people for weaving. Although it was first used to weave sails for Polynesian canoes, crafting nowadays includes all sorts of products of the daily life (hats, baskets etc...). More than a necessary tool, weaving is an art transmitted from a generation to the other among the women of the island. Pandanus leaves are the raw material of every product crafted.
After the harvesting and the drying - steps which take various weeks, the weaving is a true technical and creative challenge for the mamas of the Austral Islands.
