Eight miles of history

With a total length of 482 miles (777 km), the Seine flows through Paris for only 8 miles (13 km). Over this distance, the depth of the river varies from 3 to 6 metres (except during the great flood of 1910 when it reached 8.62 m) and its width is from 30 to 200 metres. Along the banks, the most modern buildings alternate with medieval monuments (Notre-Dame, the Sainte Chapelle, the Conciergerie) or classical buildings from the century of Louis XIV (Hôtel des Invalides), not forgetting the constructions for the great World Fairs (Grand and Petit Palais, Alexandre-III bridge, Eiffel Tower).
