If they avoid dense wooded areas and forests, white-backed vultures (Gyps africanus) frequent open, low forested areas such as grasslands, savannahs, swamps and sparse woodlands as they always need trees to perch or rest. Necrophagous raptors, they are mostly present in the neighbourhood of big groups of large mammals. Their habitat may also coincide with extensive livestock farms.
