In Corsica, in the east of the island and in the Cap Corse peninsula, the lauze stone holds an important place in the traditional building. It comes from local deposits. It is one of the oldest natural materials used for slabs or roof tiles for its longevity, fire resistance and sealing properties. Making a lauze roofing is a traditional craftsmanship which is listed in the French Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
