A rainbow nation, South Africa has many ethnic groups (Ngunis, Zulu, Xhosa, Swazi, Ndebélé, Sothos, Tsongas, Vendas...) with various traditional dwellings. Many are huts, from the round rondavels with thatched or woven reed roofs and walls of clay and dung or rammed earth to the Zulu 'beehives' whose wooden structure is covered with straw.
