A 'patia' is a traditional harpoon that the Polynesian fishermen use to fish while standing on the outer edge of the reef flats. In principle, the 'patia' is composed of a wooden handle of pandanus or coconut palm at the end of which is fixed a head of five to seven 0.2 inches (5mm) points with inward barbs.
