Traditional dance is the manifestation of the Polynesian collective spirit expressed in the pupu (group) which has from 20 to 100 dancers. Directed by a ra'atira (formerly the representative of the chiefs and rulers) and extended to musicians and singers, the pupu is an impressive sound and visual ensemble which evolves according to highly codified choreographies.
